The largest bird photography competition in the world, Bird Photographer of the Year, is currently in the second week of its initial showing in Havant, Hampshire. The exhibition continues until November 12 before moving on to other venues. Find out more information on future venues through to August 2023 here.
More than 20,000 images are submitted to BPOTY every year. The current inaugural display at The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, 56 East Street, Havant, Hants PO9 1BS, provides the opportunity to view Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended categories. The seventeen judges are highly experienced in photography and well-informed about the wildlife world, and the winning selections are pretty spectacular.

The BPOTY group focuses on sustainability and provides vital funding to grass-roots conservation projects through their partner charity, Birds on the Brink. The charity’s work wants to recognise the call to action in response to the seemingly unstoppable progression towards extinction while providing hope that all is not lost. The exhibition seeks to capture the beauty of our natural world in a vast array of different birds and environments.

I think photographs are like birds: if I hurry to catch them, I always fail. Nevertheless some times they come to my table for a piece of bread
