Gear Patrol rescued DPReview from extinction. The leading enthusiast media publisher and pioneer in product journalism covers a wide range of consumer products. The site has been taken under the wing of its new parent, and all previous data will be preserved. Gear Patrol has confirmed that current DPReview employees will continue and work to maintain the commitment to high standards. The team will continue to grow its body of experts, creators, and expert content.
Back in March, we reported on the impending closure of DPReview after 25 years of service to the photographic community. For many, DPReview was the definitive source of reference for digital photography. In the beginning, digital was a niche market at a time when film still dominated professional and most amateur work. Over the years, DPReview moved into the mainstream. It became one of the most valuable sites for anyone interested in buying a new camera. At the time, we announced that PetaPixel would take over DPReview’s video tests. Since This is not mentioned in the latest update from Gear Patrol and we assume that the arrangement still stands.

DPReview is the internet’s original centre of gravity for photography. As a photography enthusiast, I’ve been an avid reader since its earliest days. We’re honored to receive the baton from Amazon and help the incredible DPReview team craft the next phase of their story. Editorial integrity and the passionate community are the heart of DPReview, and we plan to uphold that charter.

Scott Everett, General Manager of DPReview, continues:
“We’ve heard from many of you over the past several weeks, and we realize there are many questions about what comes next for DPReview. We’re thrilled to share the news that Gear Patrol has acquired DPReview. Gear Patrol is a natural home for the next phase of DPReview’s journey, and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.
“I want to reassure you that we remain firmly committed to what makes DPReview great: the best camera reviews in the business, industry-leading photography news and features, and one of the most active photography communities anywhere on the internet.
“This is just the beginning of a new chapter for DPReview, and we don’t have all the answers yet, but I’m sharing what we know below and will continue to share information about this change as we get more acquainted with our partners at Gear Patrol.”
A cup of coffee works wonders in supporting Macfilos
Did you know that Macfilos is run by a dedicated team of volunteers? We rely on donations to help pay our running costs. And even the cost of a cup of coffee will do wonders for our energy levels.
Either or neither, you choose… or not.
Or, you could just throw the cat another kipper, in which case s/he will shrug and agree to anything.
Mange tout.
I don’t think my cats would even eat the kipper. Spoiled little brats want canned cat food, and it must be fresh.
Not like the cats of my youth, who would steal from the washtub of fish brought back from the seine net pull.
Yes or no that I agree with your post. or yes or no that I know where I am going?
A one hundred year old man that my wife looks after for a few hours a week, has a comment that he likes to use; “I am not often wrong, but I am always right”. He also has a question that frequently asks; “Where’s the cat?”
When applied to me, this statement could mean that I have realised that a photograph adheres to my reality, and mine alone. If someone doesn’t like it… hard cheese, I do and that is all that counts; since it was my vision and I made it real.
In the case of the old man, he knows that in his reality, he is always right, and never wrong. Or, to put it another way, the kingdom of God is within him, and who am I to dispute his vision?
Of course, none of us will really know, until we snuff it, by which time, it will be too late.
Knock once for yes, twice for no.
I am starting to have a lot more problem knowing what people are talking about as ai get older.
I am delighted it is out of Amazons hands. I am happy it is now with a reporting organization.
Fantastic! Thanks for posting this. I always go to the ‘Studio Scene’ and download a RAW file to see what a camera can do. And strip off any in camera corrections 🙂
It disgusted me that Amazon planned to dump all that data …
Good news. Although I only started going there maybe 3-4 years ago, the value I have received fro DPReview has been user questions and answers.
