The Fujifilm X Half compact digital camera is a unique JPG-only point-and-shoot, producing half-frame vertical images in the 3:4 aspect ratio. Launched today at a UK retail price of ยฃ699, the camera represents a lightweight, fun entry to the world of Fujifilm X. It mimics the portrait aspect ratio that smartphone users are now accustomed to.
The design and retro aesthetics of the Fujifilm X Half evoke the appeal of classic cameras in a lightweight, compact 240g body.
Inspired by traditional half-frame cameras, such as the Olympus PEN, the X Half features a vertical LCD monitor, a smaller options screen, and an optical viewfinder. Fujifilm claims that it โevokes the feel of film cameras, recreating and improving upon distinctive rendering capabilitiesโ.
An advance lever reinforces the idea of using a film camera
When in film camera mode, users can select a โroll of filmโ, specifying number of images and fix parameters such as ISO, just like using a real film. The top-plate advance lever is used to โwind onโ the film for the next shot.
In another interesting retro quirk, it is possible to โdate stampโ images, in a nod to the popular facility offered by point-and-shoot cameras in the analogue age.
Fujifilm X Half: 2-in-1 mode
The camera, which does not shoot RAW files, also offers a โ2-in-1โ mode, which allows users to combine two still images or video recordings into one composition in-camera
Mimicking film cameras
Thirteen of Fujifilmโs iconic film simulation and grain-effect are designed to reproduce the unique texture of film photos. The camera also offers new filters, such as light leak and halation, to provide users with a wide range of creative expressions.
Film simulation options are controlled through the smaller of the two touch screens on the rear of the camera. The larger screen has 7 initial icons that represent different option groupings. By swiping left, right, up, or down, more options can be accessed to set up the camera and change settings.
Smartphone integration
Unlike other models in the Fujifilm X range, the X half users a one-inch back-illuminated sensor of 18MP. It is paired with a 32mm f/2.8 (35mm equivalent) which is claimed to provide clear image quality in a compact and lightweight design.
The smartphone application enables easy and accessible transfer of images, including direct communication with instax Link series smartphone printers.
Price and availability
The Fujifilm X Half will be available from 12 June 2025 in three colours, black, charcoal grey, and silver, at a price of ยฃ699 in the UK and $849.95 in the USA.

I can understand everything about reviving the essential motivation of taking pictures in a modern way, but I can’t see any point making sense of that price point.
