Firmware updates for three Leica product families are now available to download. We explain what you can expect after updating. In addition, we look at new options in the M9 sensor upgrade programme which is now extended to film cameras.
Leica update: M11 Family: Firmware 2.2.3
This is a minor fix in relation to Lot 6/Lot 25 EU regulations on eco design, particularly relating to stand-by power consumption. In addition, minor bugs in the firmware have been fixed.
In addition, Leica warns that in rare cases, use of UHS-I cards would result in technical difficulties. They suggest using UHS-II cards to ensure the best performance and avoid issues.
M11-D owners should read the upgrade instructions carefully. We updated our M11-D via Leica Fotos, following the Bluetooth connection procedures and then accepting the update shown in the app.
The process takes several minutes to complete, with a blinking red light showing progress. Only when the light stops blinking is it safe to power cycle the camera. Without the benefit of a screen, updating the M11-D is a more stressful procedure and needs care.
As with all firmware updates, ensure that the battery is fully charged and avoid changing lenses (if possible) or switching off the camera until you are sure the process is complete.
Leica update: Q3 Family: Firmware version 3.1.1.
As with the M11 range, the Q3 and Q3 43 have now been updated to comply with the new EU regulations.
Improvements include
- New setting option for continuous shooting with autofocus (5fps, 12bit, AF)
- The function “Toggle Focus Point” is now accessible via the FN button.
- Electronic shutter speed of 1/16000s will now be available for P/A mode.
Leica update: D-Lux 8: Firmware 1.5.0
Another minor fix, including the EU regulations and bug fixes in the firmware.
