Leica has introduced a leather case for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max which is designed to integrate seamlessly with the Lux Grip. The Leica Lux Case incorporates MagSafe technology and can accommodate a wide range of Apple and third-party accessories, such as wallets.
The case is made from premium black leather and features precisely crafted black aluminium buttons. The interior has a microfibre coating, providing soft and secure cushioning for the phone.
Lux Grip integration
The MagSafe connection ensures quick and secure attachment of the Leica Lux Grip which retails for £260 | €300 | $395 (pre-tax) and offers a mechanical two-stage shutter button, function buttons and a settings dial.
According to Leica, the Leica Lux Case is “the case is specially designed for users who are already part of the Leica Mobile ecosystem, as well as those who wish to join it”.

Leica’s “signature focus”
Leica’s comment continues, “The perfect complement to the Leica LUX App and LUX Grip, it supports photographic applications and offers a seamless transition from everyday life to intentional image creation, embodying Leica’s signature focus on the essentials: quality, ergonomics and inspiration.”
The Leica Lux Case costs £85 | €95 | $95 (pre-tax) in both configurations for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. It is now available in select Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorised retailers worldwide.

I had one of these, and I returned it.
There is no doubt that it is well made and will work for some folk. However, I am one of those loonies that insist on keeping a small phone, I stopped at the latest mini iPhone, the 13 mini, and with one of those it was pretty useless.
The device was constantly getting in the way of the cameras, and of course, the whole point of having the mini, is that it fits in a pocket, and the cameras get used for preliminary picture making, like possible composition for making a snap with a proper camera, like the Q2 or one of my Sigmas, etc..
I don’t remember Leica being so specific about the phone that one should use, so perhaps the specified configurations shown above, is a new thing. Or perhaps it is a portent that the device is about to be discontinued and it is a bit of insurance to insist that one is using the latest iPhone models.
Finally, there is also the possibility that Apple will produce completely new and incompatible designs with their next effort, and Leica are just knocking them out before they get lumbered.
I am not a fan.
