A MONTH AGO I mentioned that I had bought a £20 SD-card adaptor for the Express card slot on my late-2008 MacBook Pro. Yesterday I took Step Two and created a boot disk out of a 16GB SanDisk Ultra card purchased locally on the island. I followed MacWorld's instructions and everything went smoothly, taking less time than they suggested. I cut down the installation to just under 7GB by deselecting unnecessary languages and all printer drivers, so I have another 7GB available for any other stuff I feel would be useful in emergency. In view of recent disasters, it will be a long time before I will venture abroad without the OS X DVDs; but it is comforting to have a quick way of booting from an SD card in emergency.
