Sloppy proofreading: Publishers take note

My post about wholesale errors in some of Alexander Kent's naval historical novels on Waterstones' ebook site has produced results.

Waterstones have apparently reported the issue to the publishers, Random House, and they have taken it extremely seriously. I understand that a thorough proofing of the entire series is underway. Presumably, updated versions will be made available to purchasers in due course.

I feel some sympathy for Waterstones on this issue. Presumably all sellers, including Amazon, have the same books with the same errors. So the booksellers are piggy in the middle. It does them credit that they have responded so positively.

Let us hope that all ebook publishers will take note of these problems and pay more attention to basic editing procedures in future.
