Buried among the small print of rules for the new Mac App Store is the statement that licence notices will be prohibited. Presumably, as with the iOS4 store, we will no longer have to tick a box and agree to a licence before installation. This is excellent news, but it’s interesting to note that the worst offender in this respect has been Apple. Every update to iTunes, every installation of any Apple software has always presented us with a licence to read and a box to tick.
The beauty of the iOS4 App Store is the ease of buying and installation. No licences, no registration numbers to remember. In fact, no hassles. I look forward to this becoming the norm with Mac software as the new store develops and begins to take over.
