Facebook Two lose jail appeal

Two Facebook users who posted messages suggesting people meet to riot during this year’s spate of unrest have lost their appeals. The two young men were earlier sentenced in Manchester to four years in prison.

Lawyers for Jordan Blackshaw, 21, of Northwich, and Perry Sutcliffe-Keenan, 22, of Warrington, both Cheshire, told the court at a hearing last month that their clients’ actions were “monumentally foolish”, “hugely stupid” and “hugely short-sighted”.

Blackshaw and Sutcliffe-Keenan pleaded guilty to encouraging others to commit crime – riot, burglary and criminal damage in the case of Blackshaw and riot in the case of Sutcliffe-Keenan.
