£49 for an iPad 64GB: That will do nicely, thank you

The website of British grocery giant Tesco crashed yesterday after thousands of hopefuls signed up for a £49 ($77) iPad 2 with 64GB storage. Some buyers were snapping up multiple tablets after they assumed this was a special discount to coincide with the launch of the new iPad. The only problem was that the web-site administrators had left off a nine. The correct price should have been £499 ($788). This story should have a happy ending with Tesco holding up its hands: “we boobed, you did well, we’ll try not to do it again.” Instead, they have refused to honour the deals.
