Mobile calls to 0800 numbers could soon be free

There is really only one reason I continue to have a landline telephone from British Telecom. It’s free to make calls to 0800 numbers and cheaper to access cost-sharing numbers such as 0845. Calling all freephone and premium numbers from a mobile phone is an expensive business, with even “free” calls costing up to 21p per minute. Good, then, that Ofcom, the telecoms regulator, is proposing to make calls from mobiles to 0800 numbers free and to ensure the cost of premium numbers is more transparent.
