Snapshots: When less means more, much more

The good news is that if you want a Leica digital camera it will set you back as little as £5,395 for the M9. Without a lens, of course, silly. They start at £1,305 each. So what about a Leica digital camera that only does black and white, just like in the sixties? Sorry to disappoint you, but such a beast will cost you even more, a cool £6,120 (plus lenses, of course). The Leica M Monochrom is causing quite a stir among the dedicated snappers. All agree it is a niche market, but no one is sure whether or not it will be a success. It will probably carve out a whole new demand. RedDot Form has the lowdown on this snip of a snapper.

The Leica M Monochrom takes only black and white images and costs a cool £6,120. If you want to complete the ensemble, this all-new APO Summicron-M 50mm f/1.4 lens costs a further £5,400. Wince at leisure
