Fax is back, never went away in Japan

I penned a eulogy to the once-mighty fax machine back in February 2011 and, for some inscrutable reason, it has become one of my most popular posts.

According to a report in yesterday’s Washington Post, my announcement of the death of fax was exaggerated. The fax machine is apparently alive and well in Japan where it is still a most favoured means of communication. In view of Japan’s enthusiastic adoption of all things digital, the survival of the fax dodo is all the more surprising. The Post tells how it is all down to culture.
