Find My iPhone: Pogue’s phone goes walkabout

Last February I told you how I had had my bag stolen in southern Athens. Inside were my iPad and MacBook Air. Thanks to Find My iPad, working on my iPhone, the police arrested the thieves as they were trying to sell my stuff in a central Athens fleamarket.

Since then I’ve heard lots of stories of successful device recovery thanks to Apple’s technology. Now David Pogue of the New York Times has a good story to tell: How he had the phone stolen on an Amtrak train, how the phone was invisible for a few days, how Find My iPhone sent a message to Pogue when the stolen phone was switched on; how, thanks to efforts by his Twitter followers, the thief’s house in a rundown area of Maryland was pinpointed and how the police found the iPhone hidden in the grass in the back yard.

If you haven’t done so already, enable “Find My…..” on all your devices.
