Apple encourages us to put all our eggs in its safe and secure cloud basket. But if that basket has holes, we are all soon going to lose confidence.
Mat Honan’s iCloud hacking episode gets more worrying by the minute. He believes that the hacker managed to persuade Apple Support that he/she was the owner of the account and wished to reset the password. I agree with Pietro Montalcino on Macography.net that Apple needs to improve its authentication procedure. And the sooner the better.
Pietro cites Google’s two-factor system as a big improvement. So far we have not had an official statement from Apple on the Honan incident, but I sincerely hope the alarm bells are ringing in Cupertino.
