This is the first credible image I’ve seen of the new iPhone and the rumoured new dock connector, smaller and with 19 or 9 pins depending on choice. A full rundown is published here on Cult of Mac. Although I’ve always been a fan of the old 30-pin connector because of its stability (more like a British three-pin power plug compared with the lightweight US affair), it Is inevitable that something smaller had to be introduced.
The 30-pin connector has been around for a long time, ever since the introduction of the original iPod. This was hefty device compared with today’s iPod touch and slim phones and, at the time, the 30-pin connector was innovative and relatively small.
Something had to give and now we know the smaller connector is coming, the sooner we get used to it the better. The photograph comes from a full story in the French technology site, NowhereElse.
