After reading Justin Blanton’s and Ben Brooks’s experience with their black iPhones, I gave my new device a thorough inspection on taking it out of the box. It is generally in good condition, but there is one small nick in the paint (exactly as described by Justin) on the left-hand side of the antenna surround.
This is not a positive pointer to future wear and tear and indicates that there could be a general problem with the paint finish. I shall see how things go over the next day or two. If I see any further deterioration I might take Justin’s and Ben’s advice to return the black beauty for a white phone. At least the nicks won’t show as badly as they do on the black.
