I am happy to see that I am not alone in being unable to understand, let alone use, Passbook. I attempted to link my Starbucks card, for instance, and failed. Then I realised Passbook just isn’t necessary: The Starbucks app works perfectly well and it is actually easier to fire up Starbucks when buying a coffee. The same goes for the link to the Lufthansa app. Why bother, I wonder.

Passbook then is at best a novelty at this point. While there’s certainly the possibility Apple will revamp the app wholesale, and in turn gain meaningful traction, I’m more inclined to put my money on the bet it’s destiny is to join poor Ping in the ignominious Apple Graveyard.
