Leica MP: New baby joins camera family

My growing family of cameras has a new baby. Actually, it is nearly 10 years old but it is quite beautiful in its shiny black paint with the brass showing through at various wear points. Yes, it’s an MP, the apogee of the all-mechanical film camera. As such, it is the Leica to own if you are into film. No wimpy aperture priority for the MP owner. It is basically a sixty-year-old M3 with TTL light metering and a coat of new paint. More on this beauty when I’ve clicked the shutter a few times and developed the first rolls. Are we all going back to film? It seems so.

Nearly ten and a bonny baby at that. Note the paint rubbing off around the lugs and in one or two other places you cannot see. Most people will pay extra for that. Here it is with a 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit lens.   Below you can see my mods: a Tim Isaac red bug shutter release button and an old Thumbs Up made for the Leica M9 and which sort of fits securely. The strap is an Artist & Artisan silk strap in the long (over the shoulder) version. Photos Mike Evans, Leica M with 50mm Summilux: f/4 @ 1/30s, ISO 3200, very low light conditions
