Leica M and the mystery of the missing accessories

Where oh where have all those accessories gone? The EVF is in plentiful supply (or you can just pick up an Olympus) but the adapter for R-mount lenses is missing

Leica Camera AG, like some supreme being, moves in mysterious ways and its wheels grind exceeding slow. Nine months after the announcement of the new M Typ 240 and three months after its eventual appearance, a whole raft of accessories is still missing. No grips, no cases and especially no adapter for R lenses. What is the company thinking of?

None of these items is technically challenging nor, I suspect, difficult to produce. Yet new owners have been left without even basic accessories for months. The only bits you can get are replacement batteries and the electronic viewfinder (which is the same as the one used on the X2/Vario. I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies.

Leica dealers I know have been inundated with calls from disgruntled accessory seekers from all over the world. For some reason they think that Britain is a fount of all gadgets, but perhaps the convenience of Engish has something to do with it.

At last there is news as disclosed in this Leica Rumors article article. Leather cases are imminent but we will have to wait until August or September for the real bits, including grips and the R adapter.

It is good that Leica fans are a loyal and patient lot. Any other camera manufacturer would have been ridiculed before now.
