Last week’s optimistic reports of the imminent death of the ageing Thunderbolt Cinema Display turn out to be exaggerated. Sadly. As I have mentioned repeatedly, the current display with its USB 2.0 ports and ample girth is well past its shelf life. We live in hope of a USB3.0-equipped display in slimline iMac format and, with luck, featuring a higher resolution screen. Last week we heard that stocks of the old display were drying up, something that often presages an update. I just checked, hoping to find something new, but was disappointed to find the old display is back in business. I desperately need a new Cinema Display but I refuse to pay £899 for a device that is sure to be out of date within months.
