New retina and non-retina iPad minis in pipeline

The Wall Street Journal reports that mass production of a retina display for the iPad mini will start in the fourth quarter but there is no indication of whether the new device will arriva this year or in the first quarter of 2014 as many expect. 9to5 Mac adds to the rumour with evidence of an A6-based non-retina mini which could arrive sooner. I suspect Apple is keen to launch a sub-$300 mini to head off increasing competition at the lower end of the tablet market.
