With a new iPhone on the way I am again vacillating over Apple Care, especially since we now have the option to purchase Apple Care+ for iOS devices. This includes accidental damage which can be repaired at a discounted rate for policy holders. While I invariably buy Apple Care for Macs (waiting to near the end of the first year’s warranty before signing up), I have never considered it worthwhile for an iPhone or iPad. But after smashing the screen of my iPhone in July at a cost of £179, I am thinking again. Apple Care+ for an iPhone costs £79 ($99 in the US) and covers two accidental damage instances which are chargeable at a more palatable £55 ($49 US).
To help make up my mind I consulted Jonathan Seff’s detailed analysis in Macworld. Worth a read.
