I’m not quite sure when I first started using selfie, probably some time in 2012 after seeing it on a photographic site and quite liking the concept. Now the OED has awarded the newcomer the title of word of 2013. The word might be new but the concept of a self portrait, usually taken through a mirror, is not new.
I have a wonderful book of selfies published with the cooperation of Leica: Leica Myself. In it you will find 99 pages of superb self portraits that are a cut above the usual Facebook stuff. If you are lucky you might just pick up a free copy in a Leica store (particularly if you are buying an expensive camera). Failing that you can buy the book direct from the publishers for a reasonable 20 euros plus tax and postage.
