US Mac sales up nearly 30%, PCs shrink again

Research by Gartner shows that Mac sales in the USA rose by 28.5% last year against a backdrop of shrinking PC purchases, down 7.5% on the previous year. Macs now accont for nearly 14% of the US market compared with under 10% in 2012. But this is only a small part of the story. As I pointed out yesterday, Apple grabs the lion’s share of the high-end market: Mac’s remain aspirational and are not bought simply on price. It’s an enviable position to be in.
