Yesterday I was praising Honda for introducing a system which allows a smartphone’s navigation app to be displayed on the built-in display screen in the car. No sooner had I published the article than I received purported screenshots of the upcoming iOS in the Car feature which aims to offer an iOS-style interface on a car’s system screen. Published by Steve Traughton-Smith, these screenshots are not identical to Apple’s implementation but they definitely show the way to go. iOS integration will be a big selling point for many car buyers. For too long we have been held to ransom by the manufacturers: My antiquated and inadequate system relies on an expensive annual CD update so, for most of the time, the maps are riddled with errors. With iOS capabilities and phone linking, navigation systems will be updated on the fly. It cannot come soon enough.
