The Apple Magic Mouse hasn’t changed for years. It works, it looks nice, but it has some terrible habits. It’s bottom keeps falling off. I have had several of these mouses and they are all equally bad.
The lightweight aluminium plate that covers the battery compartment is not at all secure. I find it inexplicable why Jony Ive and his team have not had a rethink on the Magic Mouse. On the face of things, it should be a simple matter to solve the problem but Apple does not seem to care.
I resort to sticking gaffer tape over the cover. It works up to a point but because the Magic Mouse eats batteries, replacement is tedious. Please, Sir Jony, can you give some attention to the less-than-Magic mouse?
Mine falls off all the damn time. Apart from that, it’s the best damn mouse I’ve ever used, but I regard it as a huge flaw.
Agreed. Ten minutes of Jony Ive’s time and this mouse could be transformed. It’s such a simple problem to solve but years go by without change.
How very odd.I have used Apple mice for years and have never had one fall apart.Indeed I always experience difficulty getting the bottom off when I need to change the batteries.Perhaps you are overworking your mice Mike and what you are experiencing is a simple case of mouse fatigue.MF as it is known in the IT industry. This often happens in busy IT offices where the cry of "my mouse is F’d" – meaning of course that my mouse is fatigued is often heard.Your mouse may well be falling apart due to sheer overwork.
The solution may be to give your mouse longer breaks and perhaps to hold the posts on the Apple Watch for a while to give your mouse a chance to recover fully.
It may also be that Apple sends a different mouse to Australia- an electronic koala-built to stand the heat and humidity and to exist on a diet of gum tree leaves. If that is the case I will gladly post one to you FOC although I suspect that you may have difficulty sourcing a reliable supply of eucalyptus leaves in London.
Hmm, yes, you could be right. I have no doubt they send a sturdier mouse to Australia to cope with heavier hands. Strangely enough, though, several friends have mentioned this problem and I have found it occurs on all three (or even four) Magic Mouses that have darkened my doorstep over the years. It definitely has a flimsy bottom and I believe it is due for a redesign. It eats batteries, too.
