Camera fairs are increasingly popular and take place, usually at weekends, all over the UK. One of my favourites is the South London Camera Fair in Sidcup, Kent. This Sunday, March 23, is the second gathering of 2015 and I am planning to be there early…. just in case there is a bargain or two to be had.
The camera events are informal affairs and usually consist of trestle tables arrange around a community centre or college hall. Collectors and traders bring their wares and set up shop for the day. Often it is possible to pick up a real bargain, although I confess I have never been lucky. Still, I live in hope. Organiser George Kozobolis is full of enthusiasm and, as a true Greek, can even sell you a five-litre drum of virgin olive oil on your way out.
If you are in the Sidcup area on Sunday do call in and say hello.
The show starts at 8.30 for early birds looking for a choice worm. They pay £10 to get in but after ten the price drops to £3. This year there will be a further five events on June 1, July 27, September 7, November 9 and December 7.
Added on 22/5/15: The above dates are wrong–they refer to last year. The forthcoming dates for the South London Camera Fair are May 31 (this coming Sunday), July 25, September 13, October 18 and December 6.
