A few hours ago I gave you my initial impressions of the Apple Watch. They are mostly very positive and I am impressed. But there is one aspect I failed to mention: The supplied magnetic charging adaptor is awkward to use.
My watch has the rubber sports band attached and it is quite a fiddle to click on the charging pod and then lay the whole shebang down on the bedside table. The slightest pull on the cable will dislodge it from the watch and, frankly, the whole thing is untidy. I am used to slotting my iPhone 6-Plus into a solid Belkin stand (made for the 5S but it just about works with the phablet). In contrast, the Watch set up is disappointing.
What you really will need is a charging stand so you can just hook on your watch and sleep in peace. Several designs have been announced already but the simplest and most elegant I have seen comes from Mophie, a company well known for external battery packs for iPhones. Made from aluminium and leather it is minimalistic and attractive.
MacRumors has reviewed the Mophie Watch Dock and, while it isn’t the cheapest, at around $60, it is the sort of device I could imagine sitting by my bed. This is more than I can say for the various wooden stands I’ve seen.
