Setting off this morning with Ivor Cooper and the gang from Red Dot Cameras for our drive to South Paris and the Bièvres Camera Fair. This is a big event in the collectibles world and attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over Europe. Ivor is a regular but this will be my first visit.
And what better camera could I take than Leica’s new travel gem, the D-Lux with its large 4/3 sensor and versatile 24-75mm zoom? I collected the test camera from Leica Mayfair during the week and so far I am mightily impressed.
Although a little larger than the outgoing D-Lux 6, the new camera features a high-resolution built-in finder, a bright f/1.7-2.8 lens and an electronic shutter speeding up to 1/16,000s. This means advantage of the wide aperture can be taken even in bright sunshine. So far, this little guy looks like it will be a versatile and useful travel companion. I aim to find out this weekend.
