Special events at Brooklands Museum bring out the best in the British—their love of preserving old vehicles (or old anything for that matter)—and their tendency to form a club for the oddest activities. Military re-enactment clubs don’t immediately spring to mind but an event such as the Military Vehicles Day, last Sunday, brings together enthusiasts from all over the country. These dedicated individuals move around the country at weekends to support a wide range of period events.
Many spectators are there for the vast array of World War II and later vehicles of war, others just enjoy dressing up and getting into period, perhaps manning a Feldkommando post or a Russian checkpoint. I’m not a great fan of the vehicles themselves, but the visitors and spectators do provide some interesting camera fodder.
