Prophet, Madman, Wanderer: This is how Steve Edge of the high-profile Steve Edge Design consultancy describes himself.
He’s also one of the many incredibly interesting people I have met by chance on one or another visit to London Leica dealer, Red Dot Cameras in Old Street. Red Dot has an eclectic mix of clients who have one thing in common, their love of Leicas old and new.
All of them, like Steve, have a story to tell, and what a story this one is. You can hear the Steve Edge life story in the compelling video on the right. Once you start you won’t be able to stop; it’s the video equivalent of an novel you can’t put down. At the end of the 20 minutes—among many other things, involving monkeys at the dinner table, bareback horses, Steve a snake pit with Indiana Jones and a party atop Nelson’s Column—you will feel you have just become friends with an extraordinary person.
Anyway, I had just called in to Red Dot for a chat last Friday morning when in breezed Steve, hell bent on collecting the new underwater Leica X-U he had ordered. Steve, among his many other interests, is a mad-keen fisherman and he decided the well-protected X-U would be just the job. Don’t forget to watch the video, you will be surprised, I guarantee.
Quite a character Mike…
He surely is a character and a very nice guy. I don’t know how I manage it, but every time I show my face at Red Dot Cameras someone interesting walks through the door and becomes the subject of an article. What Ivor needs is a coffee bar where I can park my MacBook and spend hours watching the passing traffic.
