Leica S adapter for SL is almost a grand bit of kit

The 16-strong range of Leica medium-format S lenses can now be used on the SL thanks to a new adapter announced today. The Leica S-Adapter L adapter further extends the versatility of the much-liked full-frame mirrorless camera. It is available now from authorised retailers.

It comes at a price, though—just two ponies short of a grand. I suppose if you have a bunch of expensive S lenses cluttering your shelves, this £950 chunk of exquisitely crafted metal will be seen as a mere Corinthian bagatelle. The long-awaited R adapter for the SL (arguably of more use to more owners) is still pending, however. It is not now expected until the third quarter of 2016.

The SL system does get a new audio adapter, the AA-SCL4, which will be available from the end of June at a cost of £120.

  1. This adapter may not have many customers. The owner of S lenses probably also has a S body, so why use them on a 24*36 body? As I recall, very few Pentax users bothered to mount Pentax 67 lenses on their 35mm bodies. But the R adapter will be much more useful.
