Ten years since the introduction of the M8; it doesn’t seem possible. But it’s true. Since 2006 we’ve had the M8, M9 and the M in its many guises. Currently there are no fewer than five versions on sale—the M240, M-P, M262, M-D and Monochrom. According to the press release:
The Leica M8 marked the beginning of a new era, bringing the unique characteristics of rangefinder focusing technology into the world of digital photography. Later models, such as the Leica M9 (2009)–the first Leica rangefinder camera with a full-frame sensor–further built on this success and repeatedly set new standards with innovative features and functionality, while always retaining the basic principles of the Leica M-System. Thanks to this, all digital M models produced over the past ten years have one thing in common: a combination of advanced technology and decades of continuous development of the rangefinder concept, enabling even more creative freedom for the photographer.
To celebrate the occasion Leica is offering a £500 bonus to anyone who trades in any camera, any brand for one of the new Ms. There is also another entry-level set, comprising the M262, body, black Summarit-M 50mm f/2.4 lens, Leica SF-40 flash unit and a Leica system case for a total of £4,625.
