Will it be ready by Monday morning? After a week of frenzied activity, Ivor and Elaine Cooper and the Red Dot Cameras staff are nearing the end of their planned move from Old Street to nearby Goswell Road. The new store at 86 Goswell Road is just round the corner, near the junction of Old Street and Clerkenwell Road – a stone’s throw from the Barbican Underground station.
Red Dot, one of the most successful dedicated Leica dealers in the UK, has been outgrowing the original tiny shop for years. The move to Goswell Road doubles the customer area and adds a large storage and office facility, both of which were entirely lacking in Old Street. While there will be a few finishing touches to be made, the store will open for business in the new location on Monday morning after a week of downtime.

On Thursday and Friday I went along to give some moral support and did a few odd jobs around the new store, including standing sentinel over the stock of lenses and cameras. During the week I will call in and get some of the latest photographs of the store in action.

It’s looking good Mike… I will have to make a visit, if for nothing other than to pick up a camera of mine that is lurking inside somewhere…
Is it not strange though that we people that have a thing about the fantastic Leica cameras, don’t really get too excited about the actual ‘Red Dot’?
We all seem to prefer to buy from Red Dot Cameras, product that does not have a red dot… odd that!
Is that what we call a paradox… or is that something else?
