Man’s bestest friend loves a tickle…..

Macfilos Weekender by John Shingleton

I came across this wonderful scene of a man with quite obviously his best friend whilst walking along the esplanade here at Terrigal in NSW, Australia. It was just after having had coffee last Tuesday with Macfilos contributor and friend Wayne Gerlach. We had been talking about life in general but mainly photography and, in particular, street photography. I had been expounding that just taking photos of total strangers on the street is pointless — even if the photos are good technically — as, for me, street photos should have a narrative, tell a story or amuse or engage the viewer. We went our separate ways and just around the corner was this charming scene — man and his best friend.

Fortunately I was carrying my X1 with me and it was a simple task to ask the guy if I could take their photograph. He readily agreed. I did not ask the dog but I am sure that she was OK with anything her owner said anyway.

    • Thanks Mike for your appreciative comment.
Yes we are surviving the heat -just. There is a much appreciated break from the heat this morning with a big electrical storm. Also some very welcome heavy rain. Our two very old Himalayan cats are really not enjoying the very hot weather at all. As we live close to the sea and it is an open plan house we only have aircon in our bedroom and it hit 40ºC here on Sunday which is very hot for the coast but at least it was not as the western suburbs of Sydney which reached 47.5ºC-the hottest place on the planet apparently.

      • No problems at all. I have 2 dogs and this photo made me laugh out loud when I saw it.
I must admit I don’t miss that weather at all! I moved to LA 6 years ago from Melbourne, Australia and even though we get a lot of great constantly sunny days here it rarely gets into the 40’s.
