Billingham is an enthusiast-based company that listens to its customers. This is amply demonstrated in today’s introduction of the new Billingham Hadley Small Pro. The Hadley Small has always been my favourite bag, ideal for lightweight travelling or daily use with just a mirrorless camera or a lens or two on board. But among the features I missed on the older design was a carrying handle — I could never understand why the larger Hadley Pro had a neat handle while the Hadley Small did not.

The newcomer, the curiously named Hadley Small Pro (why not the Hadley Pro Small, I wonder?) meets this demand and several others. It sports a padded, leather-reinforced handle on the top flap, similar to that on the Hadley Pro, plus a new zipped rear pocket and a strong rear luggage cross strap which slips over the handle of a wheeled suitcase. So the new bag gains all the valued features of the Hadley Pro but goes one step further with the detachable strap — similar to that on the recently introduced Hadley One. The interior padding and layout is similar to that of the previous Hadley Small.

The Hadley Small Pro will be available from the end of March and will come in canvas or FibreNyte material and will carry a suggested retail price of £200, including VAT. Colour schemes are similar to other bags in the range — khaki canvas with tan leather; khaki FibreNyte with chocolate leather; Sage FibreNyte and chocolate leather; Burgundy canvas and chocolate leather; black canvas with tan leather; and black FibreNyte with black leather.

Extract from Billingham press release:

Harry Billingham, director, said, “Once again, we have listened to the feedback and specific requests from our loyal customers, and have integrated the most-wanted features into this newly-designed model. Created with mid-sized DSLRs and CSCs in mind, the Hadley Small Pro is deceptively spacious and versatile, and can be configured with the supplied accessories and inserts to suit the individual photographer’s needs. We believe users will welcome the additional functionality, comfort and convenience of the Hadley Small Pro, which has been painstakingly engineered for ultimate portability and protection.”

  The padded interior
The padded interior “bucket” can be configured for one or two mirrorless cameras and a coupole of spare lenses — or a small camera and a consignment of comestibles from Pret a Manger

A family business, Billingham thoroughly sources and tests all materials, ensuring that every bag is built for maximum strength and reliability, using the most innovative, durable and authentic components. Manufacturing is carried out to meticulous standards of technical precision, and once the product passes the company’s rigorous quality checks, an individual laser-engraved woven label containing a unique 10-digit barcoded serial number is applied. This represents the Billingham seal of excellence, and allows the bag to be registered, identified and tracked throughout its life.
