No Time to Die Leica Q2 appears at long last

The long-anticipated Leica Q2 007 Edition is to launch on September 20 at the same time that the long-delayed film hits the cinemas. The production run is limited to 250 pieces worldwide and, according to Leica, it “exudes understated elegance—just like James Bond—and embodies Leica’s signature minimalist design.

The camera features the 007 logo on the top plate and the famous Bond gun barrel design on the lens cap. Cameras will be individually numbered and will come in a special distinctive handcrafted case designed by the British brand, Glove-Trotter. Both the camera and the case are finished in the same ocean green leather. Included in the set are several accessories, including a thumb grip, green leather-covered handgrip with finger loop and a black fabric shoulder strap.

If you can get your hands on one, the special edition set retails for £6,750, including tax in the UK.

  1. Personally not interested but probably a no-brainer for collectors and as it was rumored a long time ago probably already sold out as well…

  2. As I mentioned to you earlier, Mike, my younger daughter crews on Soufriere, the yacht which appeared in Casino Royale, taking James Bond and his girlfriend into Venice. In fact, she is competing on it next Saturday. It is worth a lot more than a Q2, but the sad news, though, is that it does not belong to her Dad. I did, however, once win a small prize from LFI magazine with a photo of a Mercedes 300SL Gull-Wing which also belonged to the family of the owner of Soufriere.

As for the Bond Edition Q2, you would need to be a Bond fan to splash out on this, but I am sure that there are enough wealthy Bond fans around to make this a sell-out.

As for Globetrotter cases, I never heard of them before today. Maybe Passepartout had one or a set of them for Phileas Fogg, as they were true Globetrotters for me when I was young.

  3. “understated elegance” – I love it. I need the marketing person to help me with titles for my pictures.
More seriously, I think the red logo should be black to be truly understated elegance. However, if these expensive special editions keep Leica healthy, I am delighted. Only Leica can do this. If Panasonic, Sony, Canon, Nikon tried this we would be able to buy the unsold cameras for half price.

    • As I said earlier, the price isn’t all that bad. The accessories (thumb grip, hand grip, loop and strap probably account for several hundred pounds while the cost of that Globetrotter case doesn’t bear thinking about. With 250 units and collectors in the wings, the price isn’t bad at all.

    • Oooer… is it ambiguous. I’d better take a look! I thought the price was actually quite reasonable bearing in mind the collection aspect and the 250 pieces. And Globtrotter cases are exceedingly expensive for what they are. I have several tattered old examples from the 1970s and 80s plastered with hotel labels from around the world. The flimsy locks with the one-key-fits-all design were never a strong point. I keep thinking of putting them on eBay. They weren’t cheap then, although the construction is “quaint” to say the least, and they are eye-wateringly expensive now.

      • Indeed – that was point, Mike. The price increase over and above the standard version is significant. Notwithstanding a premium for exclusivity and some add-ons, it makes the price of the case particularly eye-watering. Very nice all the same, though…
