Titan: Leica’s titanium M-A comes at a price to tame the gods

Here’s one for the gods: The Titan. Leica is producing just 250 sets of this titanium M-A and 50mm APO-Summicron ASPH lens at the eye-watering price of £18,000, including VAT. The M-A, which represents the classic world of pre-metered M film cameras, features components milled from solid titanium and will arrive in a special silk-lined presentation box. The bodies and lenses will be engraved with their special-edition serial numbers.

Somehow, I don’t see many of these sets being used on the street. They are more likely to be squirrelled away by collectors with a view to a bit of return in the future.

If you have the odd 18-grand rattling around in your wallet and fancy a bit of a punt, better get your name down immediately. In the meantime, enjoy the full description of this new version of one of the pre-Olympian gods.

  1. When I got my first Leica digital in 2007, I went to Athens to stay in Hotel Titan. I was very glad because the camera was with a Titanium Summicron 50 f2 model. Dust was in all photos regardless lens quality. The glass actually got my admiration after dropping hard previous year and surviving. But at last I sold it. Now I don’t need any more titanium in my life. Oh, I also had a Hasselblad Xpan that I thing was made from the same metal. Another champion of the old times, actually very pricey, that I already sole too. I should have been a one camera man. But you see. In case sometime that will finally happen, that’s a good one! Thanks
