Leica today announces a new general-purpose standard zoom, the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70 f/2.8 ASPH. It is the most compact and lightweight zoom in the SL system and offers a constant fast aperture of f/2.8 throughout the range. The lens system comprises 16 elements in 12 groups, with three aspherical surfaces to enhance image quality and precision.
Compact
With its magnesium and aluminium all-metal housing, the new lens is protected from dust and water splashes. It weighs 572g (613g with hood) and is compact, with a length of 102mm (139mm with hood) and a maximum diameter of 72mm. The filter thread is 67mm in diameter. Minimum focus distance is 19cm at 28mm and 38cm at 70mm.
