iOS 4: Renaming iPhone OS is major move for Apple

Software-title-20100607
I've been saying for six months, even before the announcement of the fourth-generation iPhone operating system: Apple cannot continue to develop a touch operating system for phones and other devices (such as the iPad) while saddled with the iPhone OS name. Back in January I suggested iTouch OS, but Apple's decision to rename the operating system as iOS is logical and welcome. It perfectly complements the OS X system and opens the way for further developments. In time, I suspect, we will see iOS 4, 5 and 6 overtaking keyboard operating systems such as OS X as devices become more capable and begin to offer the average person everything he needs from a computer.
