iPod v iOS device sales: some new light on the facts

Last week's announcement by Steve Jobs that Apple had moved 250 million iPods and 120 million iOS4 devices left a question mark over the iPod touch which has a chip in both categories. Our friends at Asymco (see previous post) have calculated that the iPod touch accounts for 37.7 percent of total iOS4 devices. So if Steve was not being uncharacteristically modest, this looks like iPhone sales have been 75 million with the combined iPod range, including the iPod touch, hitting 250 million. Apple claim the touch is the worlds No. 1 gaming machine and the latest enhancements will do nothing to slow down sales. All this activity on the sales front again emphasises how fast the Apps Store will grow over the next twelve months.
