Toshiba’s new SED disks wipe data if removed from host

Toshiba’s latest idea of enabling automatic data erasure if a drive is removed from the computer could be a welcome additional security measure for most laptops. The new SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) models allow original equipment manufacturers to configure different data invalidation options to suit various circumstances. The drives, which are available capacities from 160GB up to 640GB, are claimed to be ideal for personal computers, especially laptops, where the threat of theft is recognised.
