25 years ago the iPad would have been a super computer

We’re used to the usual comparisons between modern devices and super computers of yesterday, usually featuring a 1970s air-conditioned roomful of computing power now squeezed into an iPhone. But it’s a not often you get a factual comparison from a man who should know. 

Dr. Jack Dongarra, one of the scientists responsible for keeping track of the mathematical capabilities of computers, has concluded that the iPad 2 is a rival for a four-processor version of the 1985 Cray 2 supercomputer. He has also discovered that the iPad 2 is ten times as fast as the original iPad most likely because of changes in the microprocessor. Read more here.
