Special offers with everything: Amazon finds better way to sell the Kindle

Buoyed by the success of the cheapo Kindle Special Offers edition—the same as the standard Kindle wifi but with ads and offers—Amazon has launched a lower-cost version of the 3G model. Despite the modest discount of $25, it seems that many buyers are willing to put up with the odd bit of promotion. Some may even like it. Is this a new trend? Can we can now expect “special offers” editions of other gadgets, even iPhones and iPads?
