According to the BBC, a 19-year-old Essex man is facing five computer offences, including hacking the Serious Organised Crime Agency’s website. Ryan Cleary of Wickford is alleged to have set up a distributed denial of service attack on June 20. He is also alleged to have attacked the website of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry in 2010. The teenager has been charged under the Criminal Law Act and Computer Misuse Act and will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ court tomorrow.
Charges include conspiring with other unknown people to construct a botnet to conduct distributed denial of service attacks. He’s also charged with making, adapting, supplying or offering to supply a botnet.
It will be interesting to see what comes out in court and whether PC Plod is hot on the heels of the “others”. No mention of LulzSec, though and it’s likely that there is no connection.
