Demand for the forthcoming Kindle Fire is strong, perhaps as you would expect for any device with the Amazon name and such an attractive $199 pricetag. But pre-orders have surprised even Amazon. I feel sure the Fire will be a success, provided it works as advertised and is reliable, but I see it mainly as a competitor for other Android tablets out there. Already, Nook have brought down their Nook Color to a competitive $199 and other Android manufacturers will surely feel the pressure. Apple, for the moment, has a completely different market with the iPad and I see very little impact on sales even if the Fire is the success that Amazon believes.

You can't argue with the price. I'm thinking about buying the Kindle Fire instead of an Ipad. If it's not any good, $ 199 is not a lot of money to throw away.
