iOS 5.0.1: Over-air installation, fix for Strine speakers

This afternoon the iOS 5.0.1 update—the battery lifesaver—became available via iTunes. I decided to delay an hour or two until it appeared in Software Update on my iPhone and iPad. So far I have lived cable-free for a month and I’m not planning to hook up to iTunes any time soon.

It is the first update supplied in this way and I am happy to say it was speedy, smooth and trouble free on both devices. People who have been using the beta version for a week report that battery life is indeed improved and I shall be testing this over the next few days.

There’s a bit of good news for Aussies, too. 5.0.1 “Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation.” This will become known as the Strine Amendment.
