2012: The year of the electronic book reader

One in every 40 adults in Britain received an ebook reader for Christmas. And 92% of those devices were Kindles. Research by YouGov disclosed that 1.33 million ebook readers were delivered at Christmas, with 1.22 million coming from the Kindle family. Mark Vaygelt of YouGov said: “This is finally the year when the late-medieval technology of the printing press was challenged by a 21st Century, digital alternative.” He praised Amazon for doing a remarkably job of selling the benefits of readers. And the good news for the publishing industry is that device owners appear to buy more books than they did before.
