This week opprobrium has been heaped on a hapless Path for automatically sweeping users’ address book contents to their servers. Path has done the right thing, admitted the mistake and deleted all user data. Unfortunately not all organisations are as ethical and I wonder just how many times all my contacts have been uploaded to various sites, not just to social network companies. I agree with Marco Arment that iOS Address Book should issue a prompt with password verification before uploading details to third parties. At least we then have a choice.
